Newsletter: Prescott North Survey Update, Upcoming Events

Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent "Call To Action" regarding the public input survey for the Prescott North Planning area, whether by taking the survey, contacting the City about the deadline, or spreading the word. Read more about the survey in a past newsletter here if you missed it or are newly subscribed.

Tyler Goodman, Assistant to the City Manager responded to the action stating that he was unaware of the April 26th midnight deadline, which had been added to the survey independently by the project consultant over the weekend. Goodman confirmed that the deadline has been removed from the survey header and will remain open until July 14th, the date of the first public meeting regarding the development plan. In light of this, there is no need to contact the city to request a comment period extension, so please disregard that part of our recent action request.

Goodman stressed that the City is very committed to soliciting public input for the development plans of both the Prescott North and Granite Creek Corridor areas and encourages citizens to visit the websites for each area for more information. The sites will be updated as more details become available. We greatly appreciate the City's interest in accepting public input in advance of any decision-making.

In addition to the July 14th meeting, Goodman shared that there would be at least one other public meeting to review the plan progress, as well as two meetings with the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council, which will also be open to the public.

Citizens Water Advocacy Group General Meeting –"Albuquerque’s Water Security Plan: Lessons for the Quad Cities?”

Thursday, May 13th 2:00PM - 4:00PM via Zoom

Albuquerque believed it had a vast aquifer to supply it with water in perpetuity until a U.S. Geological Survey revealed the aquifer was not only much smaller than thought but shrinking fast. Albuquerque had gone from perceived water security to a real water crisis, virtually overnight.

Rick Shean, Water Rights Manager for the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Authority, will detail the steps taken to secure prompt action from local officials and buy-in from the public to tackle the emergency, discuss the plans put in place to ensure success, and provide insights for other communities in the southwest.
